HSR CHAINSAW SAFETY
TRAINING CLASS

BSA National Camp Standards for
Cub Scout/Boy Scout Resident Camps

The following paragraph was added to standard 54:

"Any person who operates a chainsaw or fells a tree must be at least 18 years old and either (1) be a professional forester, (2) be a certified arborist, or (3) have received training in these techniques from the Ranger Section of National Camping School or (4) have written documentation of having other training in these techniques that is recognized by the state or federal government (This will become mandatory in 2008)."

In light of the above change to the 2006 National B.S.A. standards it is now, by the policy of the Boy Scouts of America and the Chester County Council, mandatory for any person who operates a chainsaw on the Horseshoe Scout Reservation to have successfully completed the Chainsaw Safety Training Program (BSA# 20-136). The HSR program will incorporate safe chainsaw operation and tree felling procedures as outlined by the U.S. Forest Service and the BSA National Camp School Ranger section. Session class sizes are limited. Pre-registration is required.
