Once upon a time at a camp in a galaxy
far, far away . . .

Who are we kidding?  We’re not talking past here we’re talking future . . . 2008 summer camp future to be exact!

It is however never too early to plan space exploration.  Curious?  Open for the
exciting details!

Tucked in a bend of the Octoraro River on the Horseshoe Scout Reservation, Camp Ware offers a great setting for a pack camping adventure with a variety of camp sites to meet every pack's preference.  Webelos can choose between a traditional site with two man tents and latrine/wash house such as Trapper or Leatherstocking, or a more modern site like Mohican with three tent condos, a pavilion and small shower/toilet facility.  Wolves and Bears will appreciate the bunkhouse style amenities of Macaleer Lodge, offering two floors, each having two leader sleeping rooms for four, and a large dorm style area with bunk beds for 16 scouts.  Each floor also offers a large storage area for supplies, an eating area, full kitchen and bathroom.  We didn't forget to include a campfire ring outside!  All sites have a trained Site Guide to lead your group through the program.
WHAT IS CAMP LIKE?

Your camping day begins with a refreshing dip in the pool followed by breakfast in the dining hall.  Then it's off to activities such as handicrafts, BB's, archery and nature with your fellow Scouts and leaders.  After lunch and a short siesta, it's back to the activity areas with your Site Guide leading the way.  Optional staff directed pack activities such as fishing, cooking, nature hikes, more swimming or a service project rounds out the afternoon.

Scouts will have worked up a big appetite so they might need a little encouragement to get into Class A uniforms for the Formal Retreat at the Parade Field right before dinner.  A trip to the Trading Post before the exciting camp wide evening activity, then perhaps a campfire back at campsite before bed brings the day to a close.  A cracker-barrel for leaders will provide an opportunity to meet with the staff to review that day and relax.

The staff of Camp Ware Horseshoe Scout Reservation is excited to announce two opportunities to learn more about Star Wares 2008.  Please join us on either January 10, 2008 or January 31, 2008 for Cub Camp Coordinator Orientation at the Chester County Council Service Center, 7 pm.  Details as to how to register will be available at your December Roundtables as well as in December’s Trailblazer. How great would it be to get a chance to experience a bit of Star wares 2008 at Camp Ware before the summer even gets started?  That’s exactly what all Cub Scouts, parents and leaders can do when you join us on Saturday, April 5, 2008 for Cub Scout Fun Day & Leader Orientation.  More information on this great day at camp will follow.

FAMILY CAMP is designed for spending quality time with any and all members of your family.  It is the perfect 24-hour program for "new" campers as well as seasoned veterans.  Open to all Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelo Scouts and their families, participants are only responsible for providing outdoor personal gear.

When you arrive you will find your tent set up, ready and waiting for you.  All you have to do is show up and move into your temporary home-away-from-home in the great outdoors! A Scout can attend Family weekend with their mom, dad, legal guardian, and/or adult relative (18 years or older) as well as all of their siblings.

The adventure begins on Saturday with sessions in nature, games, swimming, handicrafts, archery, BB, Scout skills and tons of fun.  Sunday includes a full breakfast, a "Scout's Own Service" and a closing ceremony. The program is limited to 250 participants per weekend with overflow registrants placed on a waiting list.  Payment must be made with your reservation.
